In 1957, American soul singer Sam Cooke releases his debut single "You Send Me.” The song is a massive commercial success, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later names the single as one of the 500 most important rock ‘n’ roll recordings.

In 1978, Keith Moon, drummer for the legendary British rock group The Who, dies in London of a drug overdose at the age of 31. He is replaced by Kenney Jones from the Faces.
