Traveller caught with drugs

Customs officials at Suvarnabhumi airport nabbed a Ghanaian man on the night of June 28 for allegedly smuggling in nearly 1,200 grammes of crystal meth, worth an estimated 4 million baht.

They found the drugs in a bag belonging to 50-year-old Thut Adjartey Glover. He told police he had no idea he was carrying drugs and said that a Nigerian man hired him to take the bag from Ghana to Malaysia.

Police crack down on gambling

Authorities have closed more than 800 illegal gambling websites since the 2014 World Cup began on June 13, police said.

Deputy national police chief Aek Ungsananon said police know about more than 1,000 such websites and are pursuing the other 200. The Technology Crime Suppression Division has been working with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to stop illegal gambling.

Up in smoke

Fire destroys warehouse

There was a fire at a plastic pellet warehouse. The warehouse was at Bangpoo Industrial Estate in Samut Prakan. The fire on June 27 caused about a billion baht damage, officials said.
