Letter of the week

HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS

Last holidays, my family went to Bangkok because we wanted to go to the beach, and I wanted to play with a banana boat. I also went to Pattaya to visit my grandmother.

When I came back home, I always played games and ate snacks. Sometimes I helped my parents to do house work.

My favourite game is Hon, a game about fighters. I always play Hon with my friends at night. I also play football with my father and my dog. When I finish, I take a shower and eat dinner with my family. During the holidays, I went to sleep at 11:30 pm.

That seems like a terrific holiday, Aueungkurn. It's good to have some time when you don't have to worry about studying or work or anything. Just having a good time and relaxing is what holidays are for. — Editor

FRIDAY FUN

Yesterday was Friday. I was very happy because every day at night I have to read an English book because my father wants me to be good at English, but on Friday I am free.

On Friday, I always play the Ranger game. My sister plays Ranger too, but she doesn’t like it. My sister likes to play Cookie Run, where there are pieces of cookies that look like humans which run away from a witch. My father watches movies or sometimes football, and my mom goes to sleep.

Krittameth Rakwong,
Yasothon

It sounds like everybody in your family has their routines down, Krittameth. I have to admit that Friday evening is probably my favourite night of the week myself. There's the whole weekend to look forward to. Sunday nights, with a long work-week ahead, are the exact opposite. — Editor

MAGICAL MOVIE

Yesterday, I met up with an old friend. To spend time together, we chose to watch a movie. The choice was between the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale film Maleficent and How to Train Your Dragon 2. The former seemed interesting, and as it has gained worldwide popularity, we inferred that there must be a reason why so many people want to watch it.

Most of the theatres showing this movie were full, so we decided on Maleficent and picked up our buckets of popcorn.

The movie was, as expected, quite entertaining. It totally changed my idea of fairy tales. The movie portrays how Maleficent, a fairy who is expected to be the villain, becomes a hero. There was a story behind how she cursed the princess, how she looks after Aurora during her years in the forest, and the plot twist of how Aurora woke up from her deathly sleep.

Overall, the movie was marvelous. It gives the lesson that sometimes things aren’t what they seem. There are two sides to a story, so before you judge, make sure you know them.

Patcharin Pattaranond,
Bangkok

I quite enjoyed that movie myself, Patcharin. The idea of telling old fairy tales from a new viewpoint is quite popular right now. Shows like Once Upon A Time, movies like Snow White and the Huntsman and books like Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West have been big hits. When those kinds of stories are done well, like in Maleficent, they're a lot of fun. — Editor
