TINT to hand out safe powder

The Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT) plans to hand out sterilised clay powder to help revellers celebrate the Songkran festival.

Ajaya Malakrong, chief of the TINT’s Thai Irradiation Centre, said few revellers are aware that the white paste they apply to their faces during the festival often contains germs, bacteria, viruses and yeast, which can result in conditions ranging from blisters to blood infections.

Ajaya said that TINT will distribute 500 kilogrammes sterilised powder to the public at Sala Daeng BTS station on April 3, 9 and 10.

Porames sentenced for murder

The South Bangkok Criminal Court on March 27 sentenced actor Porames Singpho, 33, to seven years and six months in jail for shooting to death his business partner in Thong Lor last year.

Police said Porames, his friend, his girlfriend and Noppadol Athibai dined together at a pub on Sukhumvit Soi 55. The actor argued with his girlfriend, prompting Noppadol, 44, to step in. Porames fought Noppadol before drawing a gun and shooting him in the head.

Porames appealed against the verdict and placed 1 million baht in surety to back his bail request.
