Letter of the week

HAPPY HOLIDAY

Dear Student Weekly, my nickname is Ja and I'm 19 years old.

During the school holidays, I had an opportunity to go back home, far from my university. I used my time to stay with my family and tell them about everything that happened to me at university.

I travelled with my parents and had a great time riding a bicycle with my mother and my younger brother in the evenings. In addition, I designed a birthday card for a contest. Soon I have to go back to university to study.

It was a short time to stay with my family but I’m very happy that I had a good time with them. I look forward to going back home again.

Anchan Chaopa,
Uthai Thani

It sounds like you had a great break from your studies, Ja. Spending time relaxing and travelling around with your family seems like a perfect way to recharge your batteries and get ready for the next session at university. Keep up the good work! — Editor

TRAVEL PLANS

I love to travel and my school recently ended for the holidays. I really enjoy exploring and trying new things, but I also have a budget for my holiday. My favourite types of holidays are those where there is warm weather, friendly people and great food. In the future, I hope to travel the world from America to Africa. I have to start saving up now!

Pang Anantaprut,
Bangkok

Travel is one of my favourite things too, Pang. Warm weather, friendly people and great food sounds a bit like Thailand. While I could never get bored of tasty cuisine or nice people, lately I've been getting a bit sick of the endlessly warm weather (or should that be stifling heat?). I think for my next trip I might visit Iceland. — Editor

LANGUAGE LOVER

I have a friend who can speak seven languages. I think this is really amazing and I am jealous of this ability. I used to think that there are too many languages on Earth, and that it would be great if everybody could speak the same language together, as this would make communication a lot easier.

Teera Siribunsuk,
Bangkok

It sounds like your friend has a knack for learning languages, Teera. Learning a new language is harder for some than for others, but anybody can do it if they put in enough time and effort. Communication might be easier if everybody on the planet spoke the same language, but it would also make the world a much more boring place. Every language is rich with its own ways of describing things and thinking about the world. This has created a world of amazingly diverse writing and literature that humanity everywhere can enjoy and learn from. — Editor
