Located in Sakon Nakhon, the Ban Don Thong Chai Archaeological Site displays skeletons, clay pots and other ancient belongings. The venue is open daily to the public and there is no entrance fee.

This week’s Freeze Frame explores some interesting things on display at the site.

A well preserved skeleton was found near clay pots and other household tools made of clay.

An archeologist takes dirt out of a piece of bone, which will later be identified as either from a human or an animal.

For the digging process, the archaeological team marks a pit about 2 metres square, then divides it equally into four zones. They usually start digging at around 5 centimetres depth in each zone.

In this zone, visitors can see a collection of artefacts and skeletons believed to be more than 2,000 years old.

A logbook is used to record archeological information found at a depth of 5 centimetres.

It is believed that ancient people wanted their loved ones to have tools available for use in the next life, which is why pottery and tools are often found at burial sites.
