Did you know

Adam appeared in the film Pitch Perfect 2.

The Los Angeles band Maroon 5 is definitely one of the favourite rock groups of Thai fans. After the 12,000 tickets for their September 21 show sold out in a few minutes, the band decided to add one more show on September 22.

Student Weekly attended the concert at Impact Arena on the first day. The show had no fancy video presentations or special effects, but it was flawless. The only complaint is that the 17-song, 90-minute concert was too short.

HYPE MACHINE

The band — frontman Adam Levine, 36, guitarist James Valentine, 36, keyboard players Jesse Carmichael, 36, and PJ Morton, 34, bassist Mickey Madden, 36, and drummer Matt Flynn, 45 — appeared onstage at 9 pm to crazed screams from fans.

The show kicked off energetically with wild drumming from Matt as Adam belted out their radio-friendly songs, “Animals” and “One More Night.” The crowd was hyped up, and lot of them got up from their seats to dance and sing along. Though a lot of the audience concentrated on recording the show with their mobile phones, many of them soon put away the phones and focused on the songs.

FANTASTIC FANS

While the band played their hits such as “Love Somebody,” “Maps” and “Payphone,” Adam encouraged the crowd to sing along. He understood that some fans couldn’t remember the lyrics, so he tried to make them at least hum the tune. The band let their fans sing “This Love” without music and the result was really loud.

HIGH NOTES

Aside from Adam who was the centre of attention, guitarist James received a lot of screams as well, especially when he and Adam played together. Adam is well-known for his wide vocal range and ability to sing very high notes. It was fun when James played guitar and Adam imitated the sound of the guitar with his high voice.

TWINKLING SONG

During the last song, “Daylight,” fans turned on the flashlights on their mobile phones. Then, as the band left the stage, they shouted for the massive hit, “Lost Stars.” Adam and James returned to the stage for an acoustic version of “Lost Stars,” and the audience sang along loudly. After the song, Adam said he loved the reaction from the fans and he was happy that the fans loved the song as much as he did. He also joked that in the US, if he plays the song, audiences are bored and look at their watches. The show finished with popular tracks, “Moves Like Jagger” and “Sugar,” ending a night of cool moves and sweet sounds from Maroon 5.
