Man kills children

A man with a history of mental illness went on a rampage and hacked to death five boys and injured a heavily pregnant woman next door to his home in Chiang Mai on September 27, police said.

Residents overpowered Asapa Seewuawa, 34, and handed him to police after he allegedly went berserk, grabbed a large chopping knife and hacked to death five boys and attacked the woman next door.

The woman is being treated at a local hospital.

Agencies misuse land

The Treasury Department will rejig management of 12.5 million rai of state land after a survey showed the state agencies occupying it are mostly misusing the land for their own interests, officials said on September 27.

Developers have been quick to cash in on the knock-on economic effects from electric train routes in the capital.

Chakkrit Parapuntakul, director-general of the department, said that most of the 12.5 million rai of state land was being misused for commercial purposes.
