Did you know

Pango’s cover of Singular’s song “Bao Bao (Tender)” has attracted more than a million views on YouTube.

After keeping her fans waiting for a while, lovely 28-year-old singer Chintnudda Lamakanond (Pango) has finally returned with her brand new single, “Puar Wa Ther Kid (If You Think).”

“If You Think” is Pango’s first official single since her 2013 hit, “Ploi (Let Go).” It’s Pango’s first release with the new music label What the Duck, which is also the home of popular pop crooner Singto Numchoke. Co-written by Ten from the band Musketeers, “If You Think” is an acoustic pop ballad about falling in love, and it perfectly suits Pango’s sweet singing style.

Student Weekly recently caught up with Pango, who told us all about her new song, her new label and her recent performance at the Big Mountain Music Festival.

Student Weekly: Apart from a few songs for movie soundtracks and TV dramas, “If You Think” is your first single in almost two years. What have you been doing in that time?

Pango: I’ve been working on new songs for a while now, but I’ve also been quite busy with other work like singing songs for movie soundtracks. I did a song for the Club Friday compilation album, and tried some acting as well.

Student Weekly: Can you tell us about your new single, “If You Think”?

Pango: It retains my acoustic pop sound, but the lyrics are more accessible and straightforward compared with my previous songs. My older songs like “Let Go” and “Postcard” were about nature and the world from my own perspective, so some listeners might not have been able to relate to them.

Student Weekly: How did you come to work with Ten from Musketeers?

Pango: We’ve been friends for a long time and I thought it would be nice to work together. People might think of him as a rocker, but he can also write sweet love songs. I’m a fan of his pop songs like “Kong Kwan (A Present)” and “Ngan Ten Rum (Dance Party),” so I asked him to help work on my new song.

Student Weekly: Why did you decide to release your new single with What the Duck?

Pango: What the Duck is actually affiliated with Believe Records, so I’m basically still working with the same team. These days I’m doing other kinds of work like acting and modelling, so I thought it would be easier to work with an artist management label like What the Duck rather than Believe Records, which only focuses on making music.

Student Weekly: You’ve released a lot of singles so far. Do you plan to ever release a full album?

Pango: Yes, I’ve been talking about that with the label for some time now. People tend to download or listen to individual songs rather than full albums nowadays, so we just keep releasing singles. I’d definitely like to have my own album. Hopefully I can start by releasing a mini album next year.

Student Weekly: What was it like performing at the recent Big Mountain Music Festival?

Pango: It was my third time playing there. The first time I was a guest during Singto Numchoke’s performance, but this year I performed my own show. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t as cold this year as before, but it was still fun. I got to walk around the festival to see shows by other artists.

Student Weekly: We heard that you love travelling. What are your favourite places to visit?

Pango: I really love Japan. I always try to go back there whenever I have free time. I also visited South Korea for the first time recently and fell in love with that country. I didn’t know much about Korea because I’ve never been fan of K-pop music or Korean TV dramas, but I found their cities to be very beautiful. The weather is nice there as well. I also love drinking coffee, and there are coffee shops everywhere in South Korea! [Laughs.]
