Golf F**king Hero plays a love guru in Art Idol.

The latest Thai teen comedy to hit theatres is Art Idol, released by Mono Pictures on May 31.

For those who haven’t seen it, 18-year-old actor Chanakan Poonsiriwong (Boss) plays Art, a guy who wants to impress girls with his talents but who doesn’t actually know what his talents are. His friend Foon, played by 21-year-old Kornkamon Charoenchai (Kik), is already clear about her goals, but is confused about her feelings toward Art. Things get complicated when Art suddenly decides to become an artist after meeting gorgeous art-lover Mee, played by 22-year-old Nutprapas Tanatanamaharat (Yok).

Student Weekly recently met up with Boss, Kik and Yok at Mono Pictures to hear all about the making of Art Idol.

Student Weekly: How did you all become involved in this movie?

Boss: Somebody from the film crew saw a YouTube clip of me in a dance competition and thought that I’d be good for the role of Art.

Kik: I won the Miss Gossip Star beauty pageant two years ago and was given the opportunity to audition for the film.

Yok: I worked as an MC for a cable TV programme run by Mono Group and a staff member asked me to audition for Art Idol.

Student Weekly: Boss and Kik, how did you feel about working on your first movie?

Boss: I was very happy to get a lead role, even though I hadn’t worked in showbiz before. At first, I was shy in front of the cameras, but I was able to adjust well.

Kik: I had experience working on a music video and a TV commercial before, so I wasn’t too nervous.

Student Weekly: Yok, was working on Art Idol much different from working on your previous film, The Dog?

Yok: It was very different. In The Dog, I played a serious and reserved veterinarian. To get into character, I had to watch a real vet working. But for Art Idol, I could just be myself because the character Mee is just like me!

Student Weekly: What was the atmosphere like on the set?

Boss: It was very relaxed. Everybody had fun playing jokes. Our three directors were funny and they liked to come up with new ideas on the set. Sometimes they suddenly added a new character when they saw somebody who looked interesting.

Student Weekly: Which scene was the most difficult to film?

Kik: The fighting scene was hard because I’m more used to smiling than looking angry.

Yok: It was hard filming the comedy scenes because our timing had to be perfect to make it funny.

Boss: I felt shy in the scene where I had to hug Kik. I kept forgetting the touching lines I was supposed to say!

Student Weekly: What do you think is the most impressive scene in the film?

Boss: The last scene is gorgeous, where I’m sewing and the camera moves 360 degrees around me.

Student Weekly: Do you have any suggestions for teens who haven’t yet found out what their real talents and abilities are?

Kik: Successful people didn’t always get good grades at school. Just try to find out what your strong points are and work hard to develop them.

Yok: Don’t feel too discouraged if something you do doesn’t work out well. Your chance for success will come eventually.

Student Weekly: Do you have any special message for our readers?

Yok: This film is about young people and their idols. It makes you realise that you don’t have to follow somebody else’s path. Just pursue your own dreams.

Boss: It’s OK to have idols, but you shouldn’t try to completely imitate them. Just be yourself.
