Letter of the week
WORDS ON WORK
Work is
something that most people cannot avoid. People work for different reasons.
Some just work for money, while others work in a particular job because they
love it. People should always be responsible and loyal in their work.
If you earn a salary, you can become rich. But working only for money can cause stress and tension because you have to compete with others. The more money you desire, the more stressed you will feel.
If you love your work, you will be happy. Your boss won't be worried about you because you love to do any task.
Workers have to be responsible whether they are working just for money or for the love of it. However, the feelings and pride of the workers may be different with each reason for working.
Kin Im, Surat Thani
Work can be a burden, Kin. But as you point out, work can also be a source of happiness. The trick is to pick the kind of work that will bring you fulfillment. Just remember not to become a mindless drone. If what you earn money doing is what you love, you're in good shape. If what you earn money doing does little more than enrich others, you're on the wrong track. - Editor
SUPER SINGER
I'm 18
years old, and I live in Chiang Rai. I like Thai country songs very much.
Whenever I take a shower, I sing country songs to make myself happy.
My favourite superstar is Pumpoung Doungchan. Her voice is excellent. What kind of songs do you like?
Wanaree Vongtong Chiang Rai
I like all kinds of music, Wanaree. Right now, soul legends Aretha Franklin and Al Green are in heavy rotation on my iPod. No matter what kind of music you like, what's most important is that it really speaks to you. If country music makes you happy, enjoy it. - Editor
WEIGHT PROBLEM
I have a
close friend who is very fat. She is worried about her figure, and some
classmates make fun of her.
She tried to diet by not eating breakfast. I reminded her that our teacher told us that breakfast is an important meal for our bodies.
She didn't listen to me, and a week later she fainted during a lesson in the classroom. Her face was very pale. My teacher and I picked her up and called for help.
When she felt better, the doctor gave her advice about getting slimmer. She was told to exercise frequently and eat more vegetables and fruits. Even if it's difficult, the more you try the more you will succeed.
Suparat Woo, Bangkok
Good work, Suparat. People don't do themselves any favours by skipping meals. If you really want to improve your health, you have to make sure that you eat a healthy, balanced diet. I know from personal experience that the best way to lose weight isn't some fad diet - you have to decrease calories, eat right and exercise. It's as simple as that, but it's not easy. It takes hard work and commitment. - Editor
