Police arrest migrants

A total of 89 illegal migrant workers were arrested on December 21 at a market in Sa Kaeo province while returning to their hometowns in Cambodia for the New Year.

Burapha army force members and immigration police officers set up a temporary checkpoint.

Police said that officials stopped and arrested 89 Cambodian migrant workers (66 men and 23 women) on buses and in passenger vans. The workers said they were returning home for the New Year holiday.

SRT expands railway

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has launched a new service linking Hat Yai in Songkhla with Padang Besar in Malaysia in a bid to serve an expected increase in the number of travellers between the two countries.

SRT governor Wutthichart Kalayanamitr said on December 21 that the new route will provide convenience for commuters who want to travel between the two towns.

Two trains will be used for the service, with a total of 128 seats available.

Holiday horror

Bus crashes in Chiang Mai

A bus ran off the road in Chiang Mai. It happened on Highway No.118 on December 20. Thirteen people were killed. Twelve others were injured.
