Letter of the week

COFFEE TIMES

This is the first time that I have written a letter to Student Weekly. I have read and used Student Weekly magazines in school for over two years. Even now that I am teaching at a different school, I never forget to pick it up and read it to find new words and fantastic columns to tell my students about in class.

I would like to tell you about my young aunt’s coffee drinking habit. It makes me feel worried about her. It could be said that she is a real coffee addict who loves coffee more than any other drink. She starts every morning by drinking caffeine, and she never drinks water. I'm really worried about her health because coffee contains bad fat and too much sugar and caffeine is not needed for the body. It might not affect her health right now. But in the long term, we cannot be sure. Although caffeine can help her to feel good and awake, coffee is not good to drink in the morning. Water is a better choice for health.

Narita Suboonsan,
Bangkok

Thanks for writing in, Narita. Coffee isn't so bad for you, as long as you don't have too much. And coffee itself doesn't actually contain any sugar or fat — those things will only be present if people add sugar or milk to their coffee. But you're right about water being the healthiest thing to drink — as long as you can actually find water that's clean and not full of unwanted additives. As far as your aunt goes, it's really up to her to decide if and when she wants to drink coffee. You can offer advice if you think she's overdoing it with the caffeine, but at the end of the day, each person's diet is their own responsibility. — Editor

WORLD OF WORRY

Nature in Thailand is in a very bad state because many people cut down trees and burn grass and scraps of wood. This causes carbon dioxide to fill the air, which leads to global warming.

I think that everybody must help the world.

Suchol Suriyawong,
Lampang

The world is certainly suffering from the actions of the human race, Suchol, in Thailand and everywhere else. But you're right, we should all try to do our bit to reduce pollution and slow down global warming. — Editor
