The 2001 TV drama Autumn in My Heart was a pioneering show in that it was the first Korean series to become hugely popular with Thai viewers. Recently, True Visions decided to remake this K-drama in a new Thai version.

Produced by renowned actor Ananda Everingham and starring prominent actor Jesdaporn Pholdee (Tik) and rising actress Sushar Manaying (Aom), the new version of Autumn in My Heart has caused quite a buzz around town since it began airing on cable TV on May 22.

Set in Pranburi, the series begins when baby girls Pitcha (Aom) and Pan (On Pattheera) accidently have their name tags switched in hospital. As a result, Pitcha is raised in a rich family with her brother Pathin (Tik), while Pan lives with a poor family. When Pathin’s parents find out that Pan is their real daughter, the girls have to switch back to their real families. Things get even more complicated later in life when Pathin, after living in the US for 10 years, returns to Pranburi and falls for Pitcha, despite being engaged to somebody else.

Student Weekly recently went along to a press conference to hear Ananda, Tik and Aom talk about their exciting new drama.

Question: Ananda, what made you decide to produce a new version of Autumn in My Heart?

Ananda: I was interested in the offer because they wanted me to make this drama the way a movie is made. We used filmmaking methods to produce it, from the sound recording to the editing and cinematography.

Question: How did you come to choose Tik for the role of the brother?

Ananda: We had a lot of discussions about the lead actor. When a member of the management team mentioned Tik, we suddenly had an agreement.

Question: Tik, why were you interested in the role of Pathin?

Tik: After I was told about the series, I watched DVDs of the Korean version. I soon became addicted to it! It made me want to do it from a new perspective.

Question: Tik and Aom, which scene is your favourite in the story?

Aom: I like the scene where Pitcha has to say goodbye to Pathin. My character often cries, but in this scene, she has to hold back her tears.

Tik: There’s a great scene where Pathin argues with his dad. He says that he doesn’t understand why he can’t marry Pitcha, since they aren’t biological siblings. It’s a painful conversation.

Question: Do any of you have an impressive quote from the series?

Tik: Every conversation in the drama is meaningful. When Pathin meets his long-lost sister, he asks her if she misses him. The question really expresses his overwhelming feelings. When Pathin meets Pitcha after such a long time, he vows never to be away from her again.
