Did you know

Super Junior recently launched a travel book called Super Junior’s Experience Korea.

K-pop kings Super Junior continue to make their mark in the music world. This year, the group embarked on their Super Show 5 world tour, which included shows in Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru. Despite their hectic globetrotting, the guys didn’t forget to visit Thailand, the first foreign country the group visited when they were starting out.

On August 4, Super Junior — Kangin, 28, Shindong, 27, Sungmin, 27, Eunhyuk, 27, Donghae, 26, Siwon, 26, Ryeowook, 26 and Kyuhyun, 25 — met the Thai press at Impact Arena before performing their show in Bangkok.

The guys were surprised when an MC told them that of all the K-pop groups, Super Junior always attracted the largest audience in Thailand. Eunhyuk said they were thrilled to hear the news, adding that the group loved to see their Thai fans.

SUPER SHOW

Since their latest album, Sexy Free Single, included the popular song “Spy,” Super Junior’s Bangkok concert opened with a video of the guys acting like secret agents. The guys then appeared in black suits and sang their hits “Mr. Simple,” “Bonamana” and “Super Girl.” Super Junior M’s Henry and Zhou Mi sang with the group on “Super Girl,” and greeted their E.L.F fan club together.

As expected, Super Show was a top-quality concert, with impressive stage production, smooth continuity and hilarious, well made videos. Unfortunately, the guys still lip-sync a lot of the time, but the four-hour performance of 26 songs made this seem like a minor flaw.

COSTUME PARTY

A favourite moment for the crowd during Super Show was when the guys did some cross-dressing. Sungmin got the loudest screams by looking very pretty dressed up as sexy singer Hyuna from 4Minute. Aside from dressing up as women, the guys had fun becoming superheroes. While most of the group dressed up as characters like Iron Man and Wolverine, Zhou Mi chose to be cowboy Woody from Toy Story.

TOP TALENT

Another show highlight was Henry’s solo performance of his debut single, “Trap.” At the beginning of the song, the multi-talented Henry appeared in a red outfit playing the violin beautifully. He then played piano, sang and danced. When Kyuhyun also sang with Henry, the audience went wild.

BEAUTIFUL BALLADS

Though Super Junior are famed for their dance songs, their ballads were also terrific at the concert. Main vocalists Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, Sungmin and Zhou Mi showed their powerful harmony singing on a cover of Michael Bolton’s hit, “How Am I Suppose to Live without You.”

The group then sang together on a ballad medley that included “Bittersweet,” “Someday” and “Memories.” Even rappers Eunhyuk and Shindong sang nicely during the ballads.

LOVE LIGHTS

While the guys sang “Marry U,” E.L.F changed their blue light sticks into white lights. Red lights were also used to make a heart shape and to spell out the words “I Do.” Everybody in the hall also held cards saying the same thing. Super Junior were impressed with the nice lights and the sweet response from their female fans. Eunhyuk complimented the beautiful project, while Kyuhyun said that this could only happen in Thailand, making the fans scream with joy.

SWEET TALK

During the encore, the guys spent a long time chatting with E.L.F. Each member of the group had a chance to speak their mind individually. Donghae joked that he felt sad because some fans had started to follow other groups. He said that he loved E.L.F and asked them not to make him sad. Eunhyuk promised he wouldn’t forget Thai E.L.F, and hoped that they would do likewise.

SCREAM TEAM

At the end of the show, Eunhyuk asked fans to set a new record for the loudest screaming. The guys gave their thumbs up to the fans’ crazy response. The group then decided to scream back to their fans. Super Junior proved to be crazy screamers — especially Kyuhyun, who didn’t stop screaming until he lost his voice!
