Funding needed

Tablet policy discussed

The Office of the Basic Education Commission planned to consult Education Ministry officials about future funding for the second phase of the One Tablet per Child programme.

OBEC secretary-general Apichart Jeerawuth said on May 25 that cash to continue Pheu Thai’s tablet scheme would be discussed during a meeting with ministry executives on May 26.

He said the delivery of tablet computers to Matayom 1 students, particularly those in north and northeastern provinces, had still not been completed.

Apichart said that fresh funding would be needed to continue the scheme.


Open again

Department moves back to office

The Department of Consular Affairs will resume operations at its main office on Chaeng Watthana Road on May 30 after anti-government protesters left the area following the military coup.

Officials said the Chaeng Watthana office would remain closed until May 27 for security inspections and system tests. The department’s temporary passport services at its offices in Bang Na, Pin Klao and the 7th floor of the Government Complex B Building would still be available, officials said.

Drug haul

Police find illegal load

Police found about 100 kilogrammes of ya ice drugs. It happened in Chiang Saen district of Chiang Rai. The drugs were found hidden in sacks at the back of a car. Two drug traffickers fled the scene.
