Did you know

Kyuhyun will act in a play called Catch Me if You Can.

There are always new South Korean pop artists appearing, but k-pop kings Super Junior don’t seem to have any trouble staying on top in Thailand. The group recently set a new record when tickets for their two World Tour Super Show in Bangkok concerts sold out in just 20 minutes. Because of the high demand, another concert had to be added to the schedule, making Super Junior the first k-pop group ever to perform three nights on a row at Impact Arena.

On March 18, Student Weekly met up with Super Junior — Leeteuk, 28, Yesung, 27, Shindong, 26, Sungmin, 26, Donghae, 25, Eunhyuk, 25, Siwon, 25, Ryeowook, 24 and Kyuhyun, 24 — at a press conference before the concerts.

As usual, the guys displayed their great sense of humour at the press meeting. When asked how they felt about being the first k-pop group to hold three consecutive concerts at Impact, Eunkyuk joked that they wished they could perform 365 concerts in a row.

“We’d be happy to perform in Thailand every day of the ear,” Eunkyuk said with a smile.

FOUR HOURS OF FUN

Super Junior proved to be great entertainers during their fun four-hour concert. The spectacular production included great lighting, videos and special effects. The concert wasn’t without flaws though, since some of their choreography weren’t well synchronised and parts of the group’s performance were lip-synced.

Super Junior opened the concert with the powerful song, “Superman,” while fan club E.L.F (Everlasting Friend) eagerly shouted fan chants throughout.

PLAYFUL PERFORMERS

Silky-voiced vocalist Kyuhyun impressed the crowd with his musical skills by playing keyboard and harmonica during his solo version of Stevie Wonder’s hit, “Isn’t She Lovely,” while chubby rapper Shindong made the fans laugh by dressing up like a girl and singing Hyuna’s hits “Trouble Maker” and “Bubble Pop.”

Rapper Eunhyuk engaged the crowd as he performed his self-penned song, “Say My Name.” In the middle of the song, Eunhyuk asked the fans to call out the names of Thai actors Nadech, Boy Pakorn, Ken Theeradej and Mario, but instead the crowd kept calling out Eunhyuk’s real name, Lee Hyuk Jae. Eunhyuk looked amused by the crowd’s response.

STEP BY STEP

Another song that featured crowd participation was “You & I.” Before performing the song, Yesung and Sungmin taught the audience three easy dance steps. They then walked close to the fans around the hall, showing their moves and encouraging everybody to dance with them.

EVERLASTING LOVE

Aside from shouting chants, E.L.F held up cards that they made to support Super Junior as a group and as individual members.

During the song “Our Love,” everybody in the hall held up cards that featured a heart shape and word “always” to express their love for Super Junior. Group leader Leeteuk, who will have to leave the group for military service later this year, became so emotional that he couldn’t hold back the tears.

SUPER SWEET

At the end of the show, the guys chatted with E.L.F. and asked them why they loved Super Junior so much. Leetuek then made the crowd scream with delight when he said that though the fans loved Super Junior a lot, Super Junior loved their fans even more.

Leetuek then asked the fans to wait for him while he’s away during the next two years. Kyuhyun also asked the crowd to not forget them. Siwon then ended the concert on a happy note by saying that he would see everybody in their dreams.
