Letter of the week

CLEANING UP

I am a student in the sixth grade at Ampornpaisarn School in Nonthaburi. My school is a boarding school for girls.

On the second Friday of every month we have a big cleaning day for an hour.

All of us are eager to clean the classrooms, canteen, playground and toilets, etc. We are able to finish cleaning in the allotted time.

We make microbial biotechnology from the mixture of effective microorganisms (EM) and lemon peel, then leave it two weeks for fermentation. After that, we get water from it for cleaning the floor and toilets in order to save the environment and reduce global warming.

We not only carry on mopping the floor but also collecting dried leaves and rubbish around the school. We are a united school so we do our best for our school.

We help save the world, save energy and save the environment on our big cleaning day.

Kittitee Thammahansa,
Nonthaburi

That sounds like a very interesting approach to cleaning, Kittitee. I think it's great that your school has found a natural alternative to using harsh chemical cleaning supplies. We add a lot of harmful chemicals into our water supply with our detergents and other chemical cleaners. It's also great that everybody in your school pitches in to make the job easier. Good work. — Editor

BIRTHDAY SURPRISE

It was recently my birthday. I was very surprised that this year that a lot of friends planned to celebrate my birthday.

Usually, people would just leave me and pretend that there wasn't anything, but this year was very unusual. They wanted to buy me presents and take me outside to celebrate. I was very happy about this.

Teera Siribunsuk,
Bangkok

I'm happy that you had a good birthday, Teera. I've discovered that over the years, the way that I celebrate my birthday changes. You won't always have a big celebration, and you won't always be alone. Either way can be completely appropriate. It sounds like yours was a good one this year. Happy birthday. — Editor

TOP 10 STUDENT

I’m glad to tell you my score after the midterms. The teachers announced the scores in each subject. In the subject of ASEAN Studies, I got the Top 10 award in this subject — the greatest class at Mae Fah Luang University.

Thailand is part of ASEAN, and if we don't have knowledge about ASEAN, it will put us behind other countries. I try to learn about ASEAN because it’s very important to my life in the future.

Anchan Chaopa,
Uthai Thani

Congratulations on your achievement, Anchan. You've every right to be very proud of your accomplishment. You're right about keeping competitive among the other countries in ASEAN. Congratulations. — Editor
