Richard Linklater won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival for Boyhood.

Directed by American filmmaker Richard Linklater, Boyhood is a fictional drama made with the same group of actors over a 12-year period. At once epic and intimate, the film explores the exhilaration of childhood, the changes that modern families go through and the simple passage of time.

The film begins when Mason (Ellar Coltrane) is 6 years old. Over the decade that follows, the young Mason experiences family moves, faltering marriages and re-marriages, new schools, first loves, lost loves, good times, scary times and a constantly unfolding mix of heartbreak and wonder.

As one moment leads to the next, the results are always unpredictable, leading to the kind of deeply personal experiences and changes that everybody goes through as they grow up.

Catch the spellbinding and unique drama when Boyhood opens in local cinemas on September 4.
