Court closes gambling sites

The Criminal Court recently ordered the closure of 72 websites that offer online gambling and games.

Department of Special Investigation official Suchart Wong-anandchai said that it was the first time a court order had been issued in Thailand to close websites offering online gambling.

Officials believe that some websites take in more than 100 million baht per night from online betting during peak periods, causing huge economic losses to the country.

School supplies

New fee limit introduced

Education official Khunying Kasama Voravan na Ayudhaya said on May 22 that schools can continue to collect fees of up to 1,000 baht per student from parents, even though the government has begun a 15-year free education programme.

She said that schools can still charge for expenses not covered in the programme, such as tuition fees, textbooks, school uniforms and school supplies.

Crime time

Teen suspect caught

Police caught teenagers taking drugs in Bang Kho Laem district on May 22.

The police checked the ID numbers of the teenagers. They discovered that one of the 17-year-olds was also wanted for a robbery.

Police charged the youth and seized his motorcycle. They think that the motorcycle was stolen.
